However, there are times when stricter moderation actions may be required. While we are not a particularly strict server, our priority is ensuring that everyone can comfortably participate in discussions and enjoy the community.
When We May Act More Strictly
If the natural flow of a conversation is being completely disrupted, or if members are preventing others from enjoying discussions, learning English, participating in events, or engaging with the community, moderators may take stronger action.
Examples include
- Repeatedly derailing conversations.
- Intentionally causing arguments or drama.
- Disrupting learning-focused discussions.
- Refusing to stop behavior after being warned.
- Creating an environment where others cannot comfortably participate.
While individual incidents may not always result in immediate punishment, repeated disruptive behavior or behavior that significantly impacts the community may lead to harsher moderation measures. Our goal is not to punish members unnecessarily, but to maintain an environment where conversations can continue naturally without constant interruptions.
Respect Moderator Decisions
Moderation decisions are made with the overall health of the community in mind. Even if you disagree with a decision, we expect members to respect the actions taken by the moderation team.
One issue that often makes situations worse is backseat moderation. Backseat moderation occurs when members who are not part of the moderation team attempt to take control of moderation situations themselves. This can include publicly arguing about moderator actions, telling moderators how they should handle a situation, inserting yourself into active moderation cases, or starting public debates about punishments and warnings.
If you believe a mistake has been made, there are appropriate ways to raise concerns. Publicly challenging moderation decisions rarely helps resolve a situation and often creates further disruption. For this reason, backseat moderation is not permitted on The English Hub.
Do Not Harass Moderators
Moderators are members of the community who dedicate their time to ensuring the server remains enjoyable and functional for everyone. They are not available on demand and should not be treated as personal support agents.
Repeatedly pinging moderators, spamming them with messages, attempting to pressure them into changing decisions, or otherwise harassing them is unacceptable. If a moderator has already responded to a situation, continuing to argue, annoy, or provoke them will only make matters worse.
Members who engage in this behavior may be muted, blocked from contacting staff, temporarily banned, or permanently removed from the server depending on the severity and persistence of the conduct.
Final Note
The English Hub is built around the idea of providing a friendly place to learn, socialize, and enjoy conversations in English. Most moderation actions are light-touch because we trust our members to behave responsibly.
That said, when someone's behavior begins to negatively affect the experience of others, moderation may become significantly stricter. Respect moderator decisions, avoid interfering with moderation matters, and treat staff members with the same respect that you expect from others. Doing so helps ensure that the community remains welcoming, enjoyable, and productive for everyone.
