Using Discord

Custom and private voice channels

Create your own voice channel with Join to Create — public or private, named after you.

The English Hub offers Join to Create voice channels. When you join one, Discord spins up a temporary voice channel named after you. You control who can enter and whether it stays public or private.

Getting started

Join a Join to Create voice channel in the sidebar. Your personal channel appears with your name. Friends or study partners can follow you in.

Managing your channel

Use the /voice slash command in the server to see options for your channel — locking it, setting a user limit, renaming, and other controls available on this server. Type /voice and browse the command list rather than guessing.

Level requirement

You need server level 5 to create custom voice channels. Check your level in the bot-commands channel with ProBot if you are unsure.

Good practice

Close or leave channels you no longer need so empty rooms do not clutter the list. Respect server rules in private rooms — privacy does not exempt you from guidelines or Discord Terms of Service.
